Growing up in a large family in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, the values of service and community were instilled from a young age. In addition, I have always been drawn to topics of spirituality, psychology, health and self-improvement. Given the combination of these influences with my own personal healing and recovery journey, pursuing a career as a psychologist seemed like a natural fit for me.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at Grand Canyon University and went on to earn a Master's and Doctoral degree in clinical psychology at the Arizona School of Professional Psychology. In 2005, I moved back to Minnesota to further my training in community mental health and trauma-informed chemical dependency treatment. After 12 years in private practice in Minneapolis, I am excited to be back in Arizona and to join the wonderful team at Biltmore Psychology Services.
Overall, I believe that growth and healing are fostered in a safe, supportive and trusting therapeutic relationship. This is the foundation of my work with clients. In addition to processing distressing emotions and experiences, Ihave a holistic (mind-body-spirit) approach and emphasize building strengths, increasing resilience, and promoting wellbeing.
I have specialties in areas of trauma, chemical dependency and women's issues. I am a certified EMDR therapist with advanced training working with adults who experienced childhood trauma, abuse and neglect. Depression, anxiety, mood disorders, codependency, family stressors, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief/loss and addiction are also concerns that I treat. In addition to individual therapy, group therapy and DBT skills trainingare services I provide.
Making the decision to pursue therapy is an important step and an investment in your growth. I welcome the opportunity to be a part of your healing journey and look forward to assisting you in reaching your life goals and full potential!
